
2024 Research Infrastructure Workshop

THE IMPACT
The workshop successfully facilitated collaboration, knowledge sharing, and community growth across NSF’s Research Infrastructure programs, supported by cohesive branding and engaging design assets.
Key outcomes included:

15% increase in in-person attendees, totaling 413 hybrid participants

121 new users added to the COI portal during the event

8 education tracks offered, the most in RIW history

51 attendees presented during poster sessions

100% of surveyed in-person attendees would recommend RIW to a colleague
This solution-focused approach ensured all deliverables were cohesive, accessible, and aligned with NSF’s mission while maximizing impact within a complex, multi-track hybrid event.
THE SOLUTION
To address project goals for this large-scale hybrid event, the focus remained on delivering high-impact, essential assets that created a cohesive, accessible, and professional attendee experience while maintaining NSF’s brand standards.
Key deliverables included:

Event brand identity & style guide: Visual system including logo lockups, typography, and color palette

Promotional and informational emails: Branded communications to drive awareness and engagement

PowerPoint templates: Custom slides for speakers and session presentations

Digital platform graphics: Branded assets for the registration site and Knowledge Gateway repository

Onsite signage & stage banners: Large-format designs for venue branding and wayfinding

Poster session templates: Designs to support presenters in creating clear, branded research posters

PROJECT OVERVIEW
The 2024 NSF Research Infrastructure Workshop was held March 26–29, 2024, in Tucson, Arizona. This annual event brings together NSF’s Research Infrastructure community to facilitate continuous learning, information sharing, and collaboration among participants.
As Creative Director and Senior UX/UI Designer, responsibilities included:

Content management for the Research Infrastructure Knowledge Gateway repository, ensuring accurate and timely updates
